Melanotan II (MT-2) is a synthetic cyclic lactam heptapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Cyclization confers high metabolic stability and makes it a potent, non-selective melanocortin receptor agonist active at MC1R, MC3R, MC4R and MC5R. It is widely used in laboratory research to characterize melanocortin receptor signaling, melanogenesis (skin pigmentation), and centrally mediated appetite and erectile pathways; the MC4R-selective erectogenic fragment PT-141 (bremelanotide) was derived from this scaffold. aminobay supplies it as a lyophilized powder for laboratory research use only.
